These elegant flower vases and decorative bowls are created by Chad and Sara Lund in the state of Washington. The vases are created with forms that incorporate designs of the human face. All work is wheel thrown and slab built originals and features a woman's, man's and/or child's face in each design. Every vase is created, finished and signed by either Chad or Sara. Their work includes a white porcelain line which is high fired at 2400 degrees. After each piece has been bisqued, Chad and Sara wax the faces so that they remain unglazed. This creates the two textures on their unique vases. A second line of porcelain vases is pit fired and made in a similar manner as the white, however the finishing process is different. They glaze the inside with a black glaze and leave the outside unglazed to create a rough outside surface. After two kiln firings a gold luster is applied to the hairline {found on most sides of the faces} and then the vase is fired once more. Finally they pit fire the vase. Each piece comes out with its own unique blends of brown, tans and black tones.
All vases and bowls have unique variations of woman, man and child faces. Chad and Sara capture the bond between mother & child, man & woman, and family. They also have a selection of vases with just the woman"s and child"s face alone. Chad and Sara work out of their home, which they share with their 4-year old son Jacob. Each piece is individually crafted by artists with pride and attention to detail.
